Mickalene Thomas at Lehmann Maupin

‘Don’t forget about me (Keri)’ by Mickalene Thomas

Mickalene Thomas‘s exhibit, titled ‘She’s Come UnDone!’, at Lehmann Maupin in Chelsea comes to a close today. The exhibition-- which is Thomas’s first solo exhibit in New York, features photographs, paintings, and collages. Mickalene Thomas is known for creating elaborate paintings adorned with rhinestones, colorful acrylics, and enamel. Her work often depicts African American women in a kitschy 1970s Blaxploitation style. These works explore notions of black female celebrity and identity while romanticizing ideas of femininity and power. For more information visit,
